Background
Gaps in diagnostics and monitoring treatment of HIV are perpetuating the epidemic. While progress has been made, barriers to HIV testing remain with failure to identify new cases, missing diagnostic in the acute phase and loss of follow up, which are impacting the achievement of UNAID's 95/95/95 goals. Increasing knowledge of HIV status is a must. Early detection of individuals in the highly infectious acute phase is a key factor in reducing transmission. A reduction in lost to follow up patients by providing results immediately is a key element in the fight against AIDS. Watch this program for insights on rapid, accessible, and accurate testing methods.
- Review the status of HIV infections, current factors for HIV transmission and diagnostic gaps
- Examine the importance of early detection and treatment
- Describe strategies to enhance screening and improve patient and community outcomes
- Discuss test types and the rationale for rapid 4th generation HIV testing
