Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), 2019
This updated guidance from the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) covers diagnosis,
treatment, chemoprophylaxis, and institutional outbreak management of seasonal influenza. It specifically discusses the care of children, pregnant and postpartum women, and nonpregnant adults and includes special considerations for patients who are severely immunocompromised, such as hematopoietic stem cell and solid organ transplant recipients.
It also adds new information on diagnostic testing, use of antivirals, and discusses when to use antibiotics and when to test for antiviral resistance, plus presents evidence on harm associated with routine use of corticosteroids.
The authors also include guidance on the use of rapid testing to diagnose influenza and discuss the value of point-of-care testing in community and hospital-based outpatient settings.
