A group of experts from USA and UK will analyse how rapid point-of-care testing for HbA1c may benefit patients and support screening for undiagnosed diabetes and prediabetes.

Approximately 96 million American adults—more than 1 in 3—have prediabetes. Of those with prediabetes, more than 80% don't know they have it. Prediabetes puts you at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. ^[1]

This webinar will be chaired by Dr. David Kerr Director of Research and Innovation at Sansum Diabetes Research Institute (SDRI) USA. Dr. Kerr launched the Mil Familias and Latino Diabetes programs at SDRI as part of a long-term initiative to reduce the disproportionate burden of cardio-metabolic disease affecting U.S. Hispanic/Latino families. He also launched the Farming for Life program at SDRI which examines the impact of medical prescriptions for vegetables among adults with or at risk of type 2 diabetes. Dr. Kerr will discuss the value of HbA1c point-of-care testing for underserved communities.

Dr. Yassir Javaid is Cardiovascular lead Nene CCG, Primary Care Cardiovascular lead, East Midlands Clinical Network. Dr. Javaid will discuss the importance of the early identification of diabetes and pre-diabetes the UK perspective.

Dr. Jay Shubrook, is a diabetologist and family physician in Vacaville, California. He serves as professor and director of Clinical Research at Touro University California and also serves as the director of Diabetes Services. Dr. Shubrook will start the webinar by discussing how to better prepare the primary care workforce to manage diabetes and obesity-related diseases with the support of point-of-care testing for HbA1c.
