Cardiovascular disease and risk management: standards of care in diabetes – 2020
American Diabetes Association
Diabetes Care, 2020
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes outlines current clinical practice recommendations for diabetes care, including treatment goals, tools to evaluate quality of care and recommendations for lipid profile monitoring (which can be conducted via POC testing). The guidelines recommend obtaining a lipid profile at the time of diabetes diagnosis, at an initial medical evaluation, and every 5 years thereafter in adults under the age of 40 who are not taking statins or other lipid-lowering therapy.
