The goal of the Foundation is to develop educational material concerning specific advanced techniques in the field of laparoscopic surgery and to make such material available to surgeons, residents and other interested parties worldwide in the form of Apps at a minimal payment.
As a result we aim to increase the level of (laparoscopic) surgical skills in order to lengthen the life expectancy of patients, to improve their quality of life and to shorten the duration of hospital stay.
The iLappSurgery Foundation is started out of passion for surgery and therefore it’s set up as a non-profit organization.
Initiator and director
The initiator and director of the project is dr. Joep Knol; although born in The Netherlands he went to Belgium to do his medical school and graduated at the University of Leuven. Since 1997 he is practicing as a surgeon.
Dr. Knol is passionated by laparoscopic surgery and a speaker on many international conferences.
During the ACS conference in Boston at the end of 2012 he received the award for “the best surgical video” with a recording of a laparoscopic Splenic Flexure Mobilization. The video as edited using colorizing effects.
These colorizing effects and other video-editing are key components in the available App-modules of the iLappSurgery-project.
In this project we aim to disseminate knowledge regarding Transanal TME (TaTME) using an interactive on-line application. The project conatins guidance from experts, detailed medical illustrations, 3D-animations, and colorized videos excerpts demonstrating key concepts.
